Traditional large silver-alloy necklace from Nepal with ‘jantar’ ( protective amulet-box). Worn by men and women from different ethnic groups in the countryside like Rai, Magar, Tamang etc. The jantar may contain medicine or any sacred item or material. Often with a opening in the back, like a triangular cut that looks like a rip in the metal, to insert the magic content. On the frontside, the jantar shows a Hindu or Buddhist figure or a local animistic deity, like in this case. 40cm. (2x), late 19th / early 20th century.
