Wooden votive figure with ‘ancestor posture’. West Nepal. Sculptures with this posture are so familiar with the indigenous people in South-East Asia, like Ifugao from Philippines, Batak and Dayak from Indonesia, Jörai in Vietnam and more close by, the Naga tribes in N.E. India. The typical squatting position is often associated with the Dong Son culture in South East Asia. (1000 BC – 100 AD) In West Nepal, figures like these were donated to the local deity. 18cm. 1st half 20th century.
